Color Temperature

The color temperature is one of the most important features describing the source of light. It can vary from 2200K to 6000K. They are often referred as a warm and cold temperature of light. In this article I will describe diffrent color temperature. In addition, I will shortly describe a HCL technologies.

1. Color of light – How to choose the right color temperature

1.1 3000K – Color temperature

The most popular color of temperature. It is characterized by a warm, pleasant color. A good choice for home rooms where the main purpose is relax. It’s also works well in outdoor for gazebos and gardens.

1.2 4000K – Color temperature


The color of light intended for rooms where concentration is required. Characterized by good color rendering. Usually, this color has a higher luminous flux. It is intended for office rooms, garages and factories where the concentration of people is required.

1.3. Special colors temperature

2200K – 2700 K – decorative color. Well suited as a bedside lamp or in the form of led strips to emphasize the warm interior of the house.

5000K – 6000K – for special applications. Not recommended due to the blue light. A longer stay in such a room in the evening can cause trouble sleeping.

2. Changing the color temperature

Sometimes it is difficult to determine what activity we will perform in a given room. If the room is large, it can be used for both work and rest. There are luminaires on the market that can be used to adjust the color temperature using the application or the remote control. It is also worth mentioning the HCL (Human Centric Lighting) technology that changes the color of light according to the daily rhythm. This technology blocks the release of melatonin in the morning, stimulating action and in the evening releases it. In the morning the color of light is cold and as the day passes, it changes into a warmer one. In today’s busy world, people complain about sleep problems and depression. This is related to the dysregulation of the circadian rhythm. It’s also causes problems with concentration and apathy.

3. Summary

Do you have sleep problems? One of reason can be colour temperature which you used in your home or office. It will affect your well-being.

3 rules for the selection of light sources:

– always ask the seller about the exact color temperature of the light source. The color of warm and cold is not clear.

– try to buy sources from one producer. 3000K from X may be different than 3000K from Y.

– do not mix color temperatures of general lighting especially in one room.
